Twisted Speed   Close
I'm pretty sure, we all have seen those view cameras with their lenses twisted, to show the versatility of the camera's movements.
Looking more like a Pretzel, we did understand soon enough a decent photograph was not possible at all due to the limited Image circle>
However, working with the Combo, many times we would like to swing to control the Dof of our Aero Ektar even more.
But, alas you can't have all ...till now that is.
Accidit in puncto, quod non seperatur in anno....

One of our members David Duhan from London came up with this modification.
David, situated in London GB is also a good choice to contact when you are in need of a Speed Graphic with or without Aero Ektar. Cameras are completely overhauled and in perfect working condition. You can contact David through our user listing.

The modification was thoroughly tested by David. Very important consideration was the stability with the Aero Ektar.
All tests by David were positive and the movements are working flawless, just like the Docter(Scheimpflug) prescribed.
Actually Theodor Scheimpflug was an Austrian Army Captain..

Modded plate, all white parts must be removed by filing or machining..   Close

Shown, Original plate on the left.
Modded plate on the right. The parts in white have to be filed off...

This modification can rather easily be done yourself. Get the front standard off the rails, secondly get the front panel removed from the standard by loosening the two buttons used for the rise and fall. Filing, machining has to be done in situ from here. Rivets are not easily removed and re riveting is not recommended.
Just take your time filing ...don't take off too much! Sand sharp edges...

W A R N I N G : : #1 Remove the two rims beforehand (flatten and sand). Start filing each of the 4 corners little by little and check the working after each sequence(all4 corners)on the rail of your camera. Grinding or filing -off too much will result in an unsteady lock and will cost you an extra front standard!
Shown template will work but could be slightly less.

Templates above were made by JohnDesq and David Duhan. Templates are supplied as a guideline only and can vary depending on type/date of camera. The finished modification was thoroughly tested by David Duhan.
It will hold and steady the Aero Ektar sufficiently. This modification will give you swing in Landscape mode and yes.... forward and backward tilt in portrait mode.

Shown is the bottom of your front standard. You will have to work on all 4 marked corners. Furtheron the two edges must be flattened. More details below.

A good point to start is using the method above. Drawing a circle with the compasses from the center. Mark the corners as shown above. This way you should have the ideal mathematical cut-off. TIP: Start with the numbers 1 and 4. Try the standard and swing after you have reached this point. When the swing is tested on the rail and feels appropriate, start working on the numbers 2 and 3. Remove the same amount as found earlier on 1 and 4 (actually a mirrored operation). Finally, sand all corners..congrats, from now on you can really swing!.

W A R N I N G : The material is RVS, it is hardened steel.

If you lack one or both or rather want the conversion done by a man with experience, you can contact Fons de Vries.(Yellow Dot Tuning Service) The only thing you have to do is to remove the standard and send it to the Netherlands.
For more details and costs mail Fons from here.

H3D II and tilt/shift adapter.   Close
Hasselblad Tilt/Shift adapter

Very recently, I attended a Hasselblad show. Showing their cameras like the H3D II 39 and H3D II 50 and accessories. I had a special interest in their tilt/shift adapter and was very curious about the swing. Actually it can swing by just rotating the adapter a quarter turn. Like our experiences with the combo, the tilt will become a swing.
But can the Hasselblad cope with a combined swing and tilt? No Siree...Well, that sure made my day!

"While the Pacemaker SG does not make it substantially easier to take excellent pictures,
it does make it substantially more difficult to take terrible ones"!
