Are these machines still alive?
We would like you to participate..!

If you are a Director, Brockway or Sekonic studio user, you are kindly invited to participate in our research of Foot-candle values around the world. This may be a not so scientific approach but the results will be close maybe no cigar but alas...!

It would be interesting to know if the actual reading in foot-candles around the world varies.
It speaks for itself time and conditions must be the same. The results will be published in a table in due time!

How to proceed?

Snippit from our faq's
With the High slide in - On a Sunny day around 12PM 1200 hours (24 hrs format), aim the meter towards the Sun. The readout should be the Shutterspeed 1/ASA (You have to set the ASA according your filmspeed) f-16 or about. This is very close..but no cigar as light can vary due to slight deviations from the value above .These can be disregarded: pecularities of atmospheric conditions can cause variations of 1/3 below or above normal. If your meter responds accordingly, your cell is OK.

Resume

  • Weather Condition: Sunny, preferably no clouds!
  • Time of the day: Noon
  • Location of the meter: Flat on its back (Free space around no trees or concretes close to the meter)with the dome pointing towards the sky.
  • ASA/ISO: Choose 125 ASA for this test.
  • Slide in- Slide out: Use the high slide also called bright slide.
  • Measure: Push button or with the elder types watch the needle and note where it halted.
  • Convert to Foot-candles: Multiply with 30 to obtain the value in Foot-candles.
  • Final: You've passed the test, send us the outcome.

Please Note: For more exact measuring Foot-candles we need to place the PhotoDisk or Lumidisk!
Typical difference can be up to half to more than a stop between the Sphere and the Disk!
For our test we can ignore that and use the Sphere instead!

Send outcome To keep it simple just send the EV number read on the meter.
We will convert accordingly as there are different scales in Foot-candle.

My results:

The meter placed as requested, Time: 12:06, button pushed on my Sekonic L-28C2
Readout slightly over the 250 mark

You can see also the H mark was placed opposite the readout value of 250, resulting in an aperture/time combination of f/16-22 by 1/125 sec when using a film of 125 ASA.
This also what my Coolpix needed to record this test.

Looking forward to your comments and testresults.
