The New Zone System Manual is the most extensive single book on the Zone System to date. It shows how to bring all the variables of the photographic process under control. The New Zone System Manual teaches the individual how to visualize the image before exposing the photograph. It applies to all kinds of photographycreative, manipulative, multiple-image and multiple-exposure. Minor White Richard Zakia Peter Lorenz three experienced teachers and photographers combine years of training and experience to create this important book. Their material is on method and techniqueand their approach is understandable for anyone seriously exploring black & white photography. The New Zone System Manual features a sensitometry for working photographers that can lead to a deeper understanding of the nature of photography. For amateurs and professionals, this method of image control can be applied for consistent fine quality in straight photography or experimental photography. Any photographer who knows the essentials of exposure meter use, developing, and printing can master the Zone System. | |

Physical placing of the pots
This CDS meter from Weston Inc, Newark gained some popularity indeed but.... it needs batteries. This is a problem that is hard to overcome nowadays. The model needed Mercury PX 14 or two Px13 batteries for powersupply. As Mercury batteries are no longer available due to environmental restrictions, we need a replacement. The voltage needed is exactly 2,7 volt(very finnicky). The replacement batteries are 3 Volt and will misinterprete the readings. So pamper the batteries you still have...maybe later we will have a solution to convert the circuit to 3 volts.

Scheme of meter
Above you can see the 5 pots which will regulate the High and Low readings. It is not possible to adjust for the 3volts from here. On the left you will see the scheme and what function each pot has. In case you need to readjust your meter, follow the instructions given below the diagram. Source: Conrad Hoffman Canandaigua, NY I've adjusted the Ranger 9 by comparing the readings against a known good SLR. Use a lamp with a dimmer switch to get to the high and low positions on each scale. I'm down to my last mercury battery. Can you still get them where you are? There were some mercury batteries sold using a different formula that didn't produce 1.35 VDC. Avoid those. I haven't yet figured out the best way to incorporate a regulator for use with akalines, but that day is coming! Print or save this WorkSheet |
